Did you know that The Ned Ryan’s first guest was none other than Karen Webb APM. A proud Boorowa girl, Commissioner Webb stayed with us in February when she was sworn in as commissioner at her old school, Boorowa Central.

At a time when accommodation was the scarcest thing in the land, anyone who called on Ned at Galong was assured of bed and board. His name became synonymous with hospitality and accommodation to rich and poor alike.

Ned Ryan (1789-1871) was an Irish rebel who settled Boorowa with his cousin Roger Corcoran in the 1820s.

Ned Ryan has been described as an industrious and ambitious man who stood “five feet six and a half inches” (1.7m) tall, had a ruddy complexion, hazel eyes and “brown hair mixed with grey”.
